Action/Kinetics: Peak serum concentration: IM 17-76 mcg/mL after 1 hr. tvi: IM, IV: 90-130 min. From 80% to 100% excreted unchanged in urine.
Uses: Infections of the urinary tract, biliary tract, respiratory tract, bones, joints, soft tissue, and skin. Endocarditis, septicemia, prophylaxis in surgery.
Contraindications: See also Ce-phalosporins.
Special Concerns: Safety in infants under 1 month of age has not been determined.
Side Effects: See also Cephalosporins. Additional Side Effects: When high doses are used in renal failure clients: extreme confusion, tonic-clonic seizures, mild hemiparesis. Drug Interactions: See also Cepha-losporins.
