See also Antineoplastic Agents. Action/Kinetics: Acts either to inhibit uptake of androgen or to inhibit nuclear binding of androgen in target tissues. Thus, the effect of androgen is decreased in androgen-sensitive tissues. Rapidly metabolized to active (alpha-hydroxylated derivative) and inactive metabolites in the liver and mainly excreted in the urine. t1/ of active metabolite: 6 hr (8 hr in geriatric clients). Ninety-four percent to 96% is bound to plasma proteins. Uses: In combination with leuprolide acetate (i.e., a LHRH agonist) to treat stage D2 metastatic prostatic carcinoma as well as locally confined stage B2-C prostate cancer. Contraindications: Use during pregnancy.

Hepatic: Hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, hepatic en-cephalopathy, hepatic necrosis. Der-matologic: Rash, injection site irritation, erythema, ulceration, bullous
