1. Local hemostatic measures, such as a vasoconstrictor, may be necessary to prevent excessive bleeding during dental procedures.

2. Antibiotic prophylaxis may be necessary if the patient has a joint prosthesis. Consult 1997 ADA guidelines.

3. It may be necessary to delay dental treatment until the patient has finished drug therapy.

4. Avoid OTC drugs. Check prior to taking any nonprescription drugs that have anticoagulant-type effects such as salicylates, NSAIDs, steroids, or vitamin preparations with high levels of vitamin K, mineral preparations from health food stores, or alcohol.
