Genetic Models of Epilepsy

A number of genetic models of absence epilepsy have been identified and include: GAERS (Genetic absence epilepsy rats from Strasbourg); the WAG/Rijrat; the spontaneous epileptic rat; the entla mouse; and the DBA-2 and Frings AGS seizure-susceptible mouse models26 in the DBA-2 strain due to a variant of the inwardly rectifying potassium ion channel Kcnj10. Genetic models of generalized seizures (tonic, tonic-clonic) include the Otx_ / _ mouse, the transgenic 'jerky' mouse, and the Ihara rat.
