Inhibitors of the Synthesis of 20Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic Acid

As discussed previously, the potent vasoconstrictor metabolite 20-HETE plays a role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. While 20-HETE is a potent vasoconstrictor, increased renal production of 20-HETE provides natriuretic activity and lowers blood pressure. Induction of the renal formation of 20-HETE by fibrates lowers blood pressure and improves renal function in Dahl salt-sensitive rats, while chronic inhibition of 20-HETE formation results in saltsensitive hypertension in normotensive rats.32
