0 Intracranial pressure can be measured with systems incorporating the following y components:

1 Placement in either the intraventricular, subarachnoid, subdural, epidural or o y intraparenchymal space. A lateral ventricular catheter placed via a burr hole is the gold standard for intracranial pressure measurement. Subdural bolts or parenchymal silicone strain gauge monitors can be used alternatively. A deformable membrane.

An optico-electric mechanical device to convert the pressure signal to an electrical signal. An amplifier. A display device.

The normal intracranial pressure waveform consists of three arterial components superimposed on the respiratory rhythm: a percussion wave, a tidal wave and a dicrotic wave.

Lundberg waves are categorised as large plateau-like A waves, smaller sharper B waves and small rhythmic oscillatory C waves. A waves are characterised by a steep rise from a near normal value to 50 mm Hg or greater and persist for 5-20 minutes.
