This differs from synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction (neuron-to-muscle), which has the following characteristics: Excitatory synaptic transmission;
A one-to-one synapse, with one action potential in the input cell leading to one action potential in the output cell; A single presynaptic action potential triggers a postsynaptic action potential.
