Methods for the measurement of static lung volumes

* Spirometry: VC, VT, IC, ERV. A spirometer is a device for measuring the volume of air exhaled over time. It traditionally comprised an inverted air-filled bell with a water seal, connected to a pen writing on volume and time calibrated paper on a rotating drum. Flow transducer devices are currently used in spirometry. In these devices, the expired flow signal is electronically integrated with time to provide volume, and the expired volume signal is differentiated to provide flow. Hand-held models are now available.
