The neoplastic cells have the following immunophenotype: CD19+, CD20+, CD22+, CD79a+, CD5-, CD10-, CD23-, bcl-6-, bcl-2+. Monotypic expression of immunoglobulin light chains is seen in the majority of cases. Anti-CD21 staining often reveals regular and irregular networks of follicular dendritic cells (FDC) corresponding to the follicles (Fig. 4). In some cases large, expanded, diffuse FDC networks may be seen. Germinal center cells in the colonized and reactive follicles as well as in the expanded FDC networks are usually bcl-6+, bcl-2-. CD30+ blasts can often be found.
