In this chapter, we have set out the principles of good clinical research in conducting trials and have recommended how these principles should be applied in practice. It is our experience that with good trial management and trial coordination, undertaken by well-trained and highly motivated staff, the majority of trials proceed to a successful conclusion without engendering major problems. Trials that are well conducted provide reliable conclusions and should influence clinicians of all relevant specialities and so benefit both patients and future research.
