Graphical representation of metaanalyses

Results of meta-analyses are usually presented as plots, often called forest plots, illustrating the HR (or OR) for each individual trial and for the overall combined results (Fig. 11.10). The vertical line of equivalence drawn through unity indicates the point at which there is no difference between 'experimental' treatment and control groups. Trials favouring the 'experimental' treatment will have an HR of less than 1.0 and lie to the left-hand side of this line and those favouring control will fall on the right-hand side.
