Following the initiative to improve the quality of reporting of RCTs and the CONSORT statement (see Section 10.3.1), similar guidance has been produced to improve the quality of reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The QUORUM statement consists of a checklist and flow diagram that encourages authors to provide readers with information about literature searches, inclusion/exclusion, validity assessment, data abstraction, study characteristics and data synthesis [53], although it does not require assessment of how well things have been done. Authors, editors and peer reviewers are encouraged to use the checklist to ensure that the important aspects of study design and analysis are covered in reports. It remains to be seen whether QUORUM, or any of the other similar checklists, become adopted as the international standard. The QUORUM statement and checklist can be found at http://www.consort-statement.org/QUORUM.pdf.
