Clinical manifestation

Acute variant (Mucha-Habermann disease): abrupt appearance of multiple pru-ritic papules on the trunk, buttocks, and proximal extremities, evolving to vesicles which rupture and produce hemorrhagic crusts; lesions heal with postinflammatory leukoderma or hyperpigmentation; may have lesions identical to those of chronic variant

Chronic variant (pityriasis lichenoides chronica): at the subacute end of spectrum, may develop over days; distributed over the trunk, buttocks, and proximal extremities; small, erythematous-to-reddish brown papules, with fine scale; often polymorphic, with lesions at different stages of evolution
