Epidemiology

Although meningiomas account for 13 to 18% of all intracranial tumors, meningiomas of the jugular foramen are relatively rare.59 At the University of Zurich, meningiomas account for only 2.5% of jugular foramen tumors, with only 10 cases encountered over 20 years (Table 83-1).

Meningiomas more frequently affect females than males in the ratio of 2 : 1.59 Intracranial meningiomas occur at any age. The peak incidence is at the age of 45. Temporal bone meningiomas have a clear predilection for the middle and later decades of life.59
