For oral therapy, chloroquine tablets (250 mg), junior tablets (81 mg) and, at least in some countries, syrup can be prescribed (Table 26.4). Hydroxychloroquine is only available as tablets (200 mg). For individual doses, the dosing given in Table 26.5 can be used (Canadian rheumatology association 2000). Alternatively, tablets have to be pulverized, weighed, and put into portions. The single dose can be given as a powder, where the bitter taste can be masked by adding marmalade, honey, or apple juice. Alternatively, they can be packed into gelatin capsules. Quinacrine tablets contain 100 mg. For lower doses, they have to be cut.
