Four large recently published studies have shown that there continues to be variability in the reported sensitivity of CTC in detecting clinically significant colorectal polyps [6, 14-16]. Moreover, as stated earlier, a metaanalysis of published studies suggests that slice collimation and a primary 3D technique may be important variables for sensitivity improvement (Table 1). Reader experience is also a factor, but cannot account for all the variability . We need to continue to study the reasons for the variability in CTC sensitivity. In the future, as computer-aided detection (CAD) improves, this may lead to an improvement in overall sensitivity.
