Vitamin C is sometimes recommended for preventing and treating UTIs. However, studies do not indicate that vitamin C is effective, and it carries a theoretical risk in MS because of its immune-stimulating activity. Bearberry, or uva ursi, is also sometimes recommended for UTIs. The effectiveness and safety of this herb have not been established. In some studies, marijuana has produced beneficial effects on bladder function. However, marijuana may cause significant side effects and is illegal in most states.
