Causes

Two out of three occurrences of pelvic fractures are associated with motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) and automobile-pedestrian trauma. Industrial accidents, falls, crush injuries, and sports injuries also cause pelvic fractures. Pelvic fractures may also occur from a low-impact fall or direct blows to bony prominences. A variety of classification systems have been developed to describe pelvic fractures. See Table 1 for one such classification.
