The acute form of osteomyelitis is most frequently found in children, while the chronic form is most commonly observed in adults. Hematogenous osteomyelitis generally occurs in boys from the age of 1 to 12. Osteomyelitis in a joint is more common in children than in adults. Adults may experience an infection as a result of malignancy, burns, pressure sores, urinary tract infections, or infections as a result of atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. There are no known racial or ethnic considerations.
