Gender Ethnicracial And Life Span Considerations

Acute bacterial prostatitis occurs more frequently in older men, probably because of the enlargement of the prostate gland with age. Acute bacterial prostatitis should also be considered as a source of infection in all men with fever of unknown origin. Bacterial prostatitis or abscesses have been found to be more prevalent in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) than in other individuals. Chronic prostatitis affects up to 35% of all men over the age of 50 but is not necessarily associated with infection. There are no known racial or ethnic considerations.
