High tumor mass (>1.2 X 1012 plasma cells/m2)

Any one of the following:

Hemoglobin <8.5 mg/dL

Serum calcium level >12 mg/dL

Normal x-ray or one solitary plasmacytoma

High M-component (IgM) production rates (>1.20) with

IgG values >7 g/dL

IgA values < or >5 g/dL (depending on variety of multiple myeloma) Urine light chain M-component >12 g/dL in 24 hr Excessive lytic bone lesions

624 Multiple Myeloma with a median survival rate of 60 months. Stage II patients have a 5-year survival rate of 40%, with a median survival rate of 41 months; stage III patients have a 5-year survival rate of 10% to 25%, with a median survival time of 23 months.

Multiple myeloma causes a number of complications, including infections such as pneumonia. Other complications are pyelonephritis, renal calculi and renal failure, hematologic imbalance and gastrointestinal or nasal bleeding, hypercalcemia, hyperuricemia, dehydration, and fractures.
