Behavioral addictions, such as the ICDs, have historically received relatively little attention from clinicians and researchers. As such, our understanding of the basic features of these disorders is relatively primitive. Future research investigating ICDs and their relationship to SUDs holds significant promise in advancing prevention and treatment strategies for addiction in general.
